On December 2nd, 2014, Energy Foundation China, the largest energy and environment policy foundation in China, celebrated its 15th anniversary in Beijing’s Diaoyutai State Guest House. Representatives of EFC’s key partners – Hewlett Foundation, Packard Foundation, ClimateWorks Foundation, and Children’s Investment Fund Foundation – joined the celebration together with over two hundred guests from the Chinese government, think tanks, academic institutes, and NGOs. To highlight the growing promise electric vehicles (EV), EF China organized a roundtable discussion on EV policy and a tour of Beijing Electric Vehicle Company.

Huiming Gong, Director of EF China’s Transportation Program moderated the EV roundtable discussion on December 2nd. Steve Chu, former U.S. Secretary of Energy, shared his insights on the state of EV and battery technology in the U.S. Zhixin Wu, Deputy Director of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center discussed the history and current challenges in new energy vehicle development in China. China’s EV industry is in its infancy and has a long way to go. EF China is providing support for education and analysis to help strengthen national policies and local pilots, with the goal of adding momentum to EV’s takeoff at this critical early stage. The EV events surrounding the 15th anniversary celebration helped EF China’s funders better understand EV development in China, helping to forge a stronger foundation for further collaboration and support for clean transport efforts.
