Analysis of Energy and Water Nexus in Typical Region and Policy Implications

In July 2020, Energy Foundation China supported Beijing Normal University for analyzing energy and water nexus in typical region and city and policy implications. The results were released in a report titled Analysis of Energy and Water Nexus in Typical Region and Policy Implications.

Through the research on the relationship between energy and water resources in Hebei Province, it found that there is a close coupling relationship between energy and water resources in Hebei Province at the industrial level. It shows that water resource management policies can contribute to achieve energy saving and emission control targets. Industrial restructure is one of the applicable measures to simultaneously reduce water and energy consumption, as well as carbon emission, when water resources management policies and industrial development policies are coordinated. Additionally, through technical means to improve water-saving efficiency in key departments can achieve significant energy-saving and emission reduction effect.

This study developed a provincial-level quantitative analysis methodology of energy water coupling relationship, and took Hebei Province as a case to carry out in-depth study, providing reference for Hebei Province to optimize the energy water relationship beyond the primary industry, and also laid the foundation for the development and application of related methodology in the future.
